The Golden Circle of Community Support

Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet' a proud member
of the Greater Denton Arts Council and Dallas Dance Council

Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet' is Denton Dance Conservatory's resident pre-professional dance company. A 501-C3 non-profit Texas corporation, Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet' was founded in 1989 by Artistic Director, Lisa Racina, it is a mixed repertory company with a focus on the presentation of original choreographic works in ballet, modern and jazz dance. Company dancers include members from Denton and surrounding communities. Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet' is the host company for Denton's annual "Collage Dance Festival" held in May.

Denton's business community contributes greatly to this performing group, named "Best in Denton" by the Denton Record Chronicle in 1999. A substantial amount of its support comes from the local business community through the Golden Circle Sponsorship Program.

Host company for the Collage Dance Festival in Denton and the umbrella organization for the Denton Youth City Ballet, Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet''  premier performance was with the "New Works Project" in Fort Worth, Tx.  Since that time, Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet' has appeared in numerous arts festivals and community events. Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet' has partnered with the Denton Community Theatre and Music Theater of Denton, as well as Denton Light Opera, in several theatre performances. Lisa Racina, Artistic Director
Denton Youth City Ballet was founded in the Spring of 1994 for Denton and surrounding area  ballet dancers ages 10-18 who have a strong dedication to a future involvement with the community of dance.  This company serves as a showcase for the talents of these young dancers. The Denton Youth City Ballet made its debut performance in December 1994 and is the junior company and youth outreach project of Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet'. Artistic Director and founder,  Lisa Racina, strongly believes in supporting the excellence attainable by the community's young people and invites the community to become involved with DYCB.

Collage Dance  Festival

The development of a dance presentation theme, the "Collage" dance series, began as an outreach project of Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet', then slowly evolved from "dance concert" to "dance festival".

Supported in part by the Greater Denton Arts Council, The Arts Guild and the Texas Commission on the Arts, the "Collage" dance series remains at the core of a determined effort to bring professional dance to the Denton community to share the stage with Denton's own talented performers.

"A yearly mosaic in dance ....with classical ballet moves, jazz energy, modern choreography and talent of local and national proportions. Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet' is a company of accomplished dancers of considerable training that focuses on modern dance, though other forms are not discounted from the Company's creative processes."
Lucinda Breeding, Denton Record Chronicle 1997

"From all walks, runs and jumps of life, "Collage..." spotlights the diversity of Denton dance."....a showcase of local and visiting talent...doing what comes naturally for an annual art event...it is growing."
Lucinda Breeding, Denton Record Chronicle 1998

Since 1992, this festival has brought to Denton members from such world famous companies as, The Fort Worth Ballet, Ballet Oklahoma, The Dallas Black Dance Theatre,  Ballet Concerto, Contemporary Dance Ft Worth, Oklahoma State University, David Taylor Dance Theatre of Denver, Colorado, Triad Dance Company of New York, Ground Level Dance Compnay,Tuzer Ballet of Dallas, Allegro Dance Ensemble of TWU, Space Dance Theatre Reunion and many local and regional musical and dance artists including Karen Hirst of Ft Worth/Dallas Ballet, and Frank Borg of Missouri State Ballet, Mary Heller-Mattox from Chicago, and UNT Professor of Ballet and choreographer, James Clouser, as well as local visual arts and musical talent. These companies and artists have joined with
our local dance companies, Denton City 'Contemporary Ballet', the Denton Youth City Ballet, Walk/Run/Jump, and Festival Ballet of North Central Texas for a wonderfully diverse and exciting dance event. For the past three seasons, our Universities have added to the concert by presenting the University of North Texas Dance Ensemble and the Texas Woman's  University Repertory Dance Theatre and DanceMakers. We are extremely grateful for their participation and continued support.

THE GOLDEN CIRCLE OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Golden Circle Sponsors are those in the community who understand the role the arts play in our lives. They understand that no civilization is complete without its artists, and no civilization can be remembered without its art.

Golden Circle members sponsor a classroom or classrooms of students to attend a performance of Collage. They name the school and grade or class they wish to sponsor. This program gives our school children an opportunity to see dance and related art at its best, and members of our community an opportunity to mentor in a meaningful way.

We salute our 2000-2001 Golden Circle Sponsors
